Job Controlled Data Entry Tutorial

Introduction

Job Controlled Data Entry allows you to associate several descriptors to a specific job subgroup descriptor, which can be used to reduce the amount of manual selection required during data entry. Most types of descriptors can be associated to a job, including user defined descriptors, parts, processes, and lots. In addition, the job subgroup descriptor stores a unique name for identification, start time, finish time, and the job status (open or closed).

The illustration below highlights how to associate descriptors to the job:

The associated descriptors may contain a single value (for example, the Customer user defined descriptor may contain the customer name), or the associated descriptors may contain multiple values (for example, the Process descriptor may contain 2 or 3 valid processes for the particular operation). If multiple values are defined, the user will be able to select the desired descriptor value during data entry.

Operation Overview

When configuring the Job Operations, you can require users to collect operation data in a particular order (first collect Job Operation 1, then collect Job Operation 2, etc.), or you can allow users to select the desired operation at the time of data entry.

To configure the Job Operation method, set the JOB_FORCE_OP_ORDER parameter in the [DATAENTRY] section of the IQS_SYS.INI file, located in the Public\Settings folder.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Job Controlled Data Entry?

Job Controlled Data Entry allows you to associate several descriptors to a specific job subgroup descriptor, which can be used to reduce the amount of manual selection required during data entry.

Can I change the terminology if I don't use the term job?

Using the language functionality built into ProFicient, you can customize an existing language to include whatever terms you use. For example, you can replace job with work order #, tracking ID, or any other term. For more information on this functionality, please see the “Managing Languages” section in the Database Manager User Manual.

What descriptors can be associated with a job?

If multiple values are defined, the user will be able to select the desired descriptor value during data entry.

How can I use Job Controlled Data Entry?

To use Job Controlled Data Entry, you must do the following:

Example

The following example illustrates how Job Controlled data entry simplifies the process of collecting data.

Getting Started, Inc. tracks customer orders using an MES system, assigning unique jobs and attaching customer names and numbers. Based on manufacturing requirements, the Production Scheduling Department assigns the job to particular machines to maintain optimal efficiency. To simplify data entry, the company would like to automatically associate this data while capturing SPC data.
